Current openings:  
    • SuperPower, Inc. in Schenectady, NY, seeks an Application Engineer to engage in research and development activities on ongoing thin film deposition processes as well as process improvements by providing materials science support/data analysis. Develop, implement and execute actions/projects related to the development, validation and support of High Temperature Superconducting (“HTS”) wire projects. Work on thinner substrate development activities for HTS including the design and execution of experiments, measurements, data analysis and communication of results; deposition of Cu-Ni on HTS tape using planar sputter deposition system; including design of experiments, film characterization and data analysis to develop deposition conditions for minimal or no Ic degradation. Perform compositional analysis on HTS tapes using ICP-OES and correlate data with IcBT performance.  Provide special studies/reports on component, device, procedural or equipment improvements and new product designs/proposals; technical input and data analysis for design, selection, and procurement of mechanical and cryogenic components, equipment, tooling, and fixtures for use in superconducting coils and other related applications; and technical inputs for POR's/CER's on components, devices, equipment, tooling and fixtures used in HTS application development. Assist in analyzing performance/improvement after installation of components and devices.  Propose cost improvement changes on drawings, procedures, components, devices and equipment. Prepare operational instructions for components, devices and equipment with respect to mechanical and thermal limits; job safety analysis for components, devices and equipment; and marketing quote analysis and preparation, based on customer’s application requirements. Provide concise reports and communicate progress on on-going projects to upper management. 
      The position requires a Master’s degree in Engineering, Physical Sciences or related field with coursework in or demonstrated understanding of superconductor materials and/or device fabrication. To apply, send resume to

Local Workforce Development Opportunities
